Supporting Nepali clients with legal matters in the UAE

This page is for Nepali workers in the UAE, their families in Nepal, and Nepali business owners in the Emirates. Rahman & Company advises on UAE legal matters. Most Nepali clients contact us about employment: contract terms, unpaid wages, end-of-service gratuity, termination and problems that began during recruitment. We also help Nepali entrepreneurs with small business licences and disputes. We explain the process step by step, and families in Kathmandu or elsewhere in Nepal can contact us on a worker’s behalf with his or her consent.

Nepal and the UAE

Nepali workers are an important part of the UAE workforce, particularly in security, hospitality, facilities management, retail and construction. Many arrive through recruitment agencies, and problems can begin before the job starts — for example where the contract signed in the UAE differs from the offer made in Nepal. UAE labour law places recruitment costs on the employer rather than the worker, requires a written contract, and protects wages and end-of-service benefits. Knowing which documents to keep, and the order in which a complaint is made, often decides how quickly a problem can be resolved.

Typical matters

Common UAE legal matters for clients from Nepal

A contract that differs from the offer

A Nepali security guard was promised one salary in Kathmandu but given a lower figure in his UAE contract. We review both documents, explain which terms apply under UAE law and what he can do, and help him raise the issue with the employer or the labour authorities.

Recruitment fees deducted from wages

A worker discovers his employer is deducting the cost of his visa and recruitment from his salary. We explain the employer’s obligations under UAE labour law and how to challenge unlawful deductions.

A family seeking unpaid benefits after a death

A worker in Dubai dies unexpectedly, and his family in Nepal needs to recover his final salary and end-of-service benefits. We explain the documents the family will need and how the claim is made in the UAE.

These examples describe the kinds of questions clients raise. They are not case studies, and every matter depends on its own facts.

Working together

Working with Rahman & Company from Nepal

  1. 01

    Initial discussion

Tell us who you are, who else is involved and what you want to achieve. A short call or video meeting is usually enough to understand the matter and agree whether we can help.

  2. 02

    Identifying the UAE legal issues

We identify which questions are governed by UAE law, which emirate, free zone or court is relevant, and where advice under the law of Nepal may also be needed.

  3. 03

    Document review and strategy

Once the scope and fees are agreed, we review the contracts, licences, title documents or correspondence and set out the options and the likely next steps.

  4. 04

    Remote consultation where appropriate

Most discussions can take place by video call and email. Where a UAE step requires a signature, registration or attendance, we explain whether a power of attorney can be used and how it should be prepared.

  5. 05

    Ongoing support and coordination

We keep you informed in writing, deal with UAE counterparties and authorities on your behalf where instructed, and coordinate with your advisers in Nepal.

Nepal is one hour and forty-five minutes ahead of the UAE. Clients may be able to engage the firm remotely where this is legally and practically appropriate. Every engagement is subject to conflict, identity and compliance checks, and no particular outcome can be promised.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can my employer charge me recruitment fees?

UAE labour law places recruitment costs on the employer, not the worker. If fees are being deducted from your wages, keep records and seek advice.

What documents should I keep?

Your offer letter, employment contract, passport and visa copies, payslips, bank statements and any messages with your employer.

Can my family in Nepal act for me if I cannot?

In many cases, yes, with a properly prepared power of attorney or as heirs with the required documents. We explain the steps for a specific case.

Can you advise on Nepali law?

Rahman & Company advises on UAE legal matters. Where advice on Nepali law is required, separate advice from appropriately qualified counsel in Nepal may be necessary.

Do I need to travel to the UAE to obtain legal advice?

Not usually. Most advice can be given by video call and email. Some UAE steps, such as certain registrations or court appearances, may require a properly prepared power of attorney or attendance, and we explain this at the outset. Nepal is one hour and forty-five minutes ahead of the UAE.

Discuss your UAE legal requirements

If you are based in Nepal or connected with it and need advice concerning a business, investment, property, dispute or other legal matter in the UAE, our team can help you understand the relevant legal considerations and next steps.
